چکیده
specialized systems—each handling specific kinds of information, working relatively independently of each other to do routine tasks. When presented with a new task, however, these systems need to develop a responsive program. this process of defining the task, and designing a program to respond, is part of the brain’s executive functions, which are believed to be mostly located in the anterior portion of the brain. these executive functions are responsible for purposeful, goal-oriented behavior. When trying to understand executive function, it is important to consider the relationships between these executive functions and the frontal lobes. damage to the frontal lobe is thought to cause changes to executive function. beebe and Gozal developed a theoretical model to explain the impact of sleepiness and hypoxia on executive functioning. this model provides a framework for researchers to examine links between the medical disorder and the neuropsychological consequences. this study and its variables are driven by beebe and Gozal’s theory, using these constructs in their research design.

Identification of Imaging and Clinical Markers Predicting Chronic Sleep Disturbances After Traumatic Brain Injury in Adults
Background and Aim: We aimed to determine the prognostic imaging and clinical markers of chronic Post-Traumatic Sleep-Wake Disorders (PTSWDs) with a special focus on the early cognitive and executive dysfunctions following Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). The prevalence rate of Post-Traumatic Psychiatric Disorders (PTPDs) in various sleep disorders was also investigated. Methods and Materials/Pat...
متن کاملSleep-disordered breathing symptoms are associated with poorer cognitive function in 5-year-old children.
OBJECTIVE To assess the relation of sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) symptoms in children to neurocognitive function. STUDY DESIGN A cross-sectional, population-based study of 205 5-year-old children. A parent-completed questionnaire was used to ascertain SDB symptoms, defined as frequent snoring, loud or noisy breathing during sleep, or witnessed sleep apnea. Polysomnography (PSG) data were ...

EXECUTIVE FUNCTION IN THE PRESENCE OF SLEEP-DISORDERED BREATHING by Amy M. Sutton The purpose of the study was to investigate whether sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) impairs executive functioning in children. Additionally, the study sought to identify the executive functions at risk in SDB and the contribution of daytime sleepiness. SDB represents a spectrum of upper airway conditions that can...
متن کاملBehavior, neurocognition and quality-of-life in children with sleep-disordered breathing.
OBJECTIVES To summarize current evidence that sleep-disordered breathing in children is associated with behavioral, neurocognitive and quality-of-life problems and to suggest new lines of investigation for future research on sleep-disordered breathing and behavior. METHODS A comprehensive review of the medical literature between January 1990 and December 2004 was performed using the National ...
متن کاملSleep-disordered breathing affects auditory processing in 5-7-year-old children: evidence from brain recordings.
Poor sleep in children is associated with lower neurocognitive functioning and increased maladaptive behaviors. The current study examined the impact of snoring (the most common manifestation of sleep-disordered breathing) on cognitive and brain functioning in a sample of 35 asymptomatic children ages 5-7 years identified in the community as having habitual snoring (SDB). All participants compl...
